Well here we are coming to the end of another amazing year, so in the tradition of Hogmanay, we invite you to look back upon the wonderful year of 2016. Oh what a year!

2016 marked the Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design, showcasing cutting-edge technology to textiles, architecture and craft of Scotland. To celebrate this we had a chance to strut our stuff at Stirling Castle and took a journey back through the centuries to experience a magnificent Renaissance fashion show with our In Vogue event.

We relived the centuries at Dumbarton Castle with The Rock of Ages, bringing history to life with over a 100 performers!

His Grace, the King of Scotland and his Queen welcomed us to a tournament to remember at our Spectacular Jousting event at Linlithgow Palace.

We launched a self-led Trees of Dryburgh Abbey tour to mark the Borders Heritage Festival which allowed visitors to explore the abbey grounds, discover some of these remarkable trees, and learn something about them.

Duff House welcomed Rembrandt’s Portrait of Jan Cornelis Sylvius, a rare red ink print, showing an Amsterdam preacher from 1633.

Our Online Shop had its first year anniversary and even went international with overseas shipping. Norma Sinclair, an Orcadian student, won our competition in collaboration with Ortak, with her range of contemporary jewellery, inspired by Maeshowe Chambered Cairn.

Edinburgh Castle had another fantastic year welcoming over 1.5million visitors. The Honours of Scotland were also given VIP treatment before the Fifth Opening of the Scottish Parliament in July.

As you can see we had an actioned packed and busy 2016, so if you enjoyed your time with us this year then we have just as much to look forward to in 2017, the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology. We look forward to blogging more about our properties and of course welcoming visitors from all over the world. Watch this space for our programme of events for all of the family.

However you plan on celebrating the New Year, we’re wishing you all a happy and warm Hogmanay. Here’s to 2016!
